Salty Service

Jesus was clear that his followers are to be servants: “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:26-28).  Service flows naturally and inescapably from the teachings and example of Jesus.  “Let me tell you why you are here,” says Jesus.  “You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth.  If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness?”  (Matthew 5:13  The Message).

WE ARE HERE!

Our goal is to bring the church to the people in the surrounding community.

Call Sue @904-885-1786 anytime we can be of help.

Prayer Walking

“And Jesus sent them forth to go door to door and pray”

The Lord has his eye on our community as we begin our Faith Sharing mission. Many have signed up already to pray for their streets and neighborhoods for health and that they may come to know Jesus Christ.

Here are 3 easy prayers you can say as you walk or drive around:

1. Pray for the safety of the street and neighborhood;
2. Pray for the health and wellbeing of people in each home or business; and
3. Pray that each person is God centered, knows Christ and has a church home.

Really simple and it gets you out to do a little exercise in this beautiful fall weather!

First Sunday, First Fruits

“And now  I bring the firstfruits of the soil that you, O Lord, have given me.  Place the basket before the Lord your God and bow down before him.”  (NIV Deuteronomy 26:10)

Every first Sunday of the month join us in bringing nonperishable food items for the Northside Christian Service Center, our local food distribution center located next door to the church office.

This month they are asking for canned goods with meet in it, such as spaghetti sauce with meat and soups with meat in it.

Cuba “El Guatao”

Highlands has long been a supporter of the Florida-Cuba Covenant in which churches in the Florida Conference support a sister church in Cuba. The Methodist Church in Cuba is growing despite of government attempts to limit Christian worship on the island.
Our sister church is El Guatao and is lead by Pastor Rafael. There is a facebook site wwwfacebook/highlandsUMC/humcJax where you can stay informed on what is going on there with some pictures of their church and church family.
Our missionaries Bruce Stevens and Sharri Matthews went over in late January carrying bags full of supplies and money so they could continue their ministry. You can contribute, contact Bruce  or leave a message for him at our church office.
